Listening & Learning About Lead Exposure in East Trenton
On August 26th, ETC held a virtual lead listen and learn session on lead exposure in paint, water, and soil in the East Trenton neighborhood. Nearly thirty East Trenton residents were in attendance as well as City of Trenton officials including Mayor Gusciora.
We were joined during the session by presenters that included Elyse Pivnick, Isles, Inc. Senior Director of Environmental Health; Anthony Diaz, New Jersey Future Community Outreach Coordinator; and Gary Brune, New Jersey Future Senior Policy Manager. Each discussed the origins and risks of lead in paint, soil, and water and suggested tips to maximize protection against exposure.
Residents were able to express their concerns about lead exposure in their neighborhood and had their questions answered by local experts. The main concern residents expressed was the lack of awareness surrounding this issue. Advocacy efforts including neighborhood canvassing, social media campaigns, and educational sessions were suggested by residents to help reach all members of our community.
ETC continues to be dedicated to addressing lead exposure in the East Trenton community. Our Lead Service Line Replacement Program is still available for qualifying residents. More information on the program and how to apply can be found here.
Additionally, all East Trenton residents are invited to attend our monthly Environmental Safety Committee meetings. More information on these meetings can be found here.
