Community Advocate Position
ETC is looking for East Trenton residents to apply for this opportunity!
The East Trenton Collaborative is working in collaboration with Lead Free NJ to create and manage an inclusive and equitable ‘Community Hub’ to address lead contamination in Trenton. As a Community Hub, we will be working to ensure that New Jersey’s children are free from lead poisoning and that our environment is lead-safe by raising awareness about lead-related issues and advocating for changes to state and local policies. The collaborative seeks to overcome racial and economic inequities by focusing on legacy lead hazards in under-resourced communities and/or communities of color, while also fostering the conditions for children to be free from lead poisoning statewide.
We are looking for an active community resident/leader to serve as Community Advocate to help organize and carry out the activities of the Community Hub. These include conducting extensive community outreach to inform and engage people in the project; organizing informational sessions focusing on specific lead-related remediation issues, creating vlog posts discussing the dangers of lead and how to ensure your family is safe, and surveying the community to assess needs and levels of risk. The Community Advocate will also work to organize resident-led listening sessions where residents can speak with city, county, and state officials about their concerns and ideas around lead contamination within the community.
