Support the Amtico Square Proposal

The City of Trenton will be hosting a public hearing regarding the Amtico Square Proposal on JUNE 22ND at 5:30 PM during the Trenton City Council meeting. To support this plan, the city intends to make two applications to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, to the Green Acres Program, and to the Urban Parks Grant Program for funding for this project.

The Amtico Square site is a former Taylor Pork Roll factory that is currently sitting vacant, and in recent years it has become a common location for illegal dumping. The East Trenton community and other advocates from throughout Trenton have been pushing for the location to be turned into a public park with a skate park for years.

This public hearing will allow residents to voice their support for the redevelopment of Amtico Square and the East Trenton Neighborhood Brownfields Area-Wide Plan. This plan was developed in partnership with ETC, NJCC, Isles, and East Trenton residents. The plan intends to redevelop 104 Taylor Street and 3 Amtico Square into a skatepark and associated multipurpose courts. This project will be an incredible asset to the East Trenton community as it will provide safe recreational activities for residents for generations to come.

You can read the plan in its entirety here.

Freedom Skate has created a Public Support Toolkit of action items you can take to support this project. You can learn more about it here.
